Atlanta Film Festival is Next Week! - Here's what you should see...

Angry Black Girl & Her Monster Screening - DAD’S GARAGE - ATLFF 2023

It’s the MOST! Wonderful TIME! Of the YEARRRR!!

I know it’s been a while, but we’ve been planning, planning, planning! But I wanted to bring you up to speed on what I’ve been up to.

Below, I’m gonna hip you to My Favorite Picks of the Season, Blocks I programmed, and Q+As I’m moderating.

I’ll be sitting with the filmmakers behind “The South Got Something to Say!”

Let’s start with MODERATING:

Desi dreams of becoming a famous singer, but her goal is threatened by the future that awaits the girls in her town, Boca Chica.

My FAVORITE Picks:

  • BOCA CHICA - 5/1 - 7p @ TARA: I’m heartbroken this is screening at the same time I am moderating! But even if you save this for virtual screening, it’s worth it. Probably my favorite feature film in the season. Child actress A+, visuals are captivating and stunning.

  • MOUNTAINS: I’ll be moderating this one! A beautiful story about gentrification in Miami.

  • A SONG FOR IMOGENE - 4/27 - 4:15p @ PLAZA: Realistic Southern story without the rundown Southern tropes.

  • ALL THE SHORTS BLOCKS: BAYBEEEE it’s SO hard for me to pick my favorite Shorts Block! This is the first time in a while that we converged on documentaries and short films, rounding out some real hard-hitting themes that examine the human condition.

  • RAPE PLAY - 5/4 - 4p @ PLAZA: Don’t be scared of the title! It’s a heavy-hitting, light-hearted documentary examining how we view rape fantasy, from the scope of fanfic writers. Super glad Marla from Sex-Down South could moderate!

Amakki (“your mother”) intimately explores the complex threads of love, loss, and resilience that weave a family of four women together.

HONORABLE MENTIONS:

Blocks I programmed:

…I actually covered that, above. So, never mind!

Curious about something on the schedule? Leave a comment or email me back, and let me know what you’re excited to see!

#FlashbackFriday: Thee BLK Pearl opens ATLFF 2023.

Damn, I miss performing, though.
